A series of 2 euro commemorative coins was designed to increase the European public's awareness of Germany's federal structure. The coins were issued in the order of rotation of the Bundesrat presidency (the Upper House of the German parliament representing the federal states). The coin shows Schwerin Castle and bears the inscription ‘Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’ - the federal state of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania where the castle is located. The mintmark ‘A’, ‘D’, ‘F’, ‘G’ or ‘J’ appears above the image, and the engraver's initials ‘HH’ below it. The year of mintage, 2007, the 12 stars of the European Union and the words ‘Bundesrepublik Deutschland’ appear in the outer ring. Issue date: February 2, 2007
