Zeus, “father of gods and men” according to Homer, was the supreme god of the Greek pantheon. According to prevailing tradition, he was born in a cave on Mount Ida in Crete, where his mother Rhea had sought refuge to save him from his father, Cronos. Zeus had to battle the older deities (the Titans and Giants) in order to prevail. The ancient Greeks imagined him having his abode on Olympus, Greece’s highest mountain, while a number of major sanctuaries to Zeus existed across Greece (Olympia, Nemea, Dodona). Over time, Zeus evolved from a punishing thunderbolt-wielding god into a guarantor of the cosmic order, providence and justice, with such epithets as xenios (patron of hospitality), ikesios (protector of supplicants), themistios (patron of right) and soter (saviour).

White enamel and silver gilded Maltese cross with final ball tips and deep blue enamel inserts, with a laurel wreath between the arms, in a suspension with a rotating crown. the face with a circular central blue enamel and a gold-plated medal bearing a gold-plated Dutch lion inside a white enamel ring with gold-plated letters "JE MAINTIENDRAI" (I will keep). The back with a circular central blue enamel pendant bearing the gold-plated crown encryption of Queen Wilhelmina, in whose name the Order was founded, inside a white enamel ring with gold-plated letters "GOD ZY MET ONS" (God be with us). The Order was established by Queen Emma, Dowager Queen, Acting Regent of Queen Wilhelmina, on April 4, 1892, and can be awarded to both Dutch citizens and foreigners for outstanding service to the Dutch throne, state or society. A medal of high quality and of a certain age.

A Soviet Order of Lenin in Gold & Platinum - Type 6, Variation 1 (1950's-1991). GOLD, platinum, and enamels, oval, manufactured at Leningrad mint with raised "Leningradskii Monetny Dvor" mark and numbered "368663" on reverse, 38 mm x 40.5 mm, weighing 46.3 grams, five-sided ribbon suspension, better than extremely fine. The Order of Lenin was the highest award of the Soviet Union and was established by the Presidium of the Central Committee of the USSR on April 6, 1930. Six versions were created over a sixty-one year period, until the last order was issued in 1991.
