Greek bronze commemorative medal from the collection of medals engraved by Konrad Lange, German Archbishop of Patras, dated 1836 (1821). The front depicts the head of the archbishop, facing left, and the inscription GERMAN ARCHBISHOP OF PATRAS. The back depicts the declaration of the revolution in Kalavryta on March 25, 1821, with the central figure, the archbishop of Paleo Patras Germanos, raising the banner of the revolution, while he is surrounded by two armed and war-ready heroes of 1821, around which is the inscription "God of my father and I will raise him up" Kalavryta, March 25, 1821. Peter Chase 405. According to tradition and several written sources on 25th of March the feast of annunciation 1821, archbishop Germanos, born Gotzias in Dimitsana, proclaimed the national uprising against the Ottoman Empire and blessed the flag of the revolution at the monastery of Agia Lavra. Earlier another of the Greek war of independence had also been declared in February 1821 by Alexandros Ypsilantis in Iasi, which was crushed by June 1821.
